Lakenheath Football Club

Lakenheath

Suffolk, England

In early 2019, Lakenheath FC in Suffolk received more than £50,000 of investment from the Football Foundation to improve and develop its club facilities. Part of this investment saw Lakenheath FC awarded £36,409 for floodlights and Halliday Lighting are pleased that we were chosen to carry out the groundworks and installation for the new lighting.

Three contractors were considered for the project with Lakenheath FC manager, Ben Cowling, explaining: “The service we received from Halliday Lighting in mapping our pitch and receiving a quote was by far the best of the three companies involved and the ability of Hallidays to include the groundworks as part of the quote was invaluable.”

Thanks to reasonable weather conditions at the start of the year, we were able to start the project in January and complete it in just 3 weeks. The installation of lighting has provided the club with 16 Siteco 2kw floodlights across four HAL250 columns with the new lights meeting Grade B standards set out by the FA.

The new lights will allow the club to run an Under-18 side which will create a pathway at the club for the senior teams and, in time, Lakenheath FC will look to start Ladies’ or Veterans’ teams too. In addition to this expansion in player participation, having floodlights means that Lakenheath will be able to enter the FA Vase for the first time next season with the hope of entering the FA Cup the following season, if eligible.

Lakenheath FC played under their new lights for the first time on Friday 15 March with an official gate of 313 spectators.

Regarding the lighting project, Lakenheath FC manager, Ben Cowling, says: “Halliday Lighting were happy to support all the requirements of the Football Foundation in terms of paperwork and were able to project manage our build too. Installation was completed very quickly enabling us to meet Ground Grading deadlines and the lights themselves are fantastic. We have had comments from opponents too about how easy the lights are to play under and how good they are.”

We wish Lakenheath FC every success going forward in creating a growing club with excellent facilities.
